Our response to coronavirus

In these unprecedented times we are supporting the national effort to keep everyone safe, while making sure everyone still has the opportunity to visit their local waterway, which can make us feel happier and healthier.

Please note that as of 4 January 2021 the Government has introduced a national lockdown in England. The Welsh Government has also announced a lockdown from 20 December. Take a look at our FAQs for more information, including the latest information following the Government’s announcement on 22 February 2021.

Our navigations remain open for local use and you can enjoy exercise and being in the outdoors, close to nature, on our towpaths. With eight million people living within 1km of one of our waterways, towpaths provide a free, accessible and local green space to get a breath of fresh air. Please follow the advice around social distancing at all times, and be considerate of moored boats where people may be living aboard.

We will keep the situation under active review and update you in line with changing circumstances and government guidance. Please refer to the government guidance for England and Wales for more information.
