Since our previous update the replacement paddle has now been manufactured and our local team will begin repairs on Friday 9 October.
A further update will be provided on or before Tuesday 13 October.
Update 2 October 2026, 3:35pm
Since our last update, an inspection of the tail gate at Lock 29 West has been completed, and our engineers have confirmed that a new paddle is required.
Our local team are now in the process of manufacturing the replacement paddle, while engineers continue to develop the repair method. Once these plans have been finalised and the new paddle has been completed, a start date for the repair works will be published.
A further update will be provided on or before Thursday 8 October.

Navigation is currently closed between Lock 24 West and Lock 29 West, on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal due to a failure to the tail gate at Lock 29 West, making the lock inoperable.
Our local team are currently on site carrying out inspections to identify the cause of the failure. Once the inspection has been completed, the team will be able to determine the most appropriate method of repair.
A update will be provided on or before Friday 2 October.
