Description

Original 18 September 2026, 4:20pm

We're carrying out essential diving works at Purton Upper Bridge 4 to inspect and repair a damaged aeration pipe located along the cill of the upstream safety gates.

The aeration pipe is designed to clear silt from around the gate cill.

The pipe is believed to be damaged and is no longer operating effectively, resulting in a build-up of silt around the structure.

Divers will remove the accumulated silt by hand to expose the pipe, undertake a detailed inspection, and complete any necessary repairs.

To enable these works to be carried out safely, navigation through the bridge will be restricted during the day. However, the navigation will be reopened at the following times to allow vessels to pass.

Navigation Open Times • 10:00am to 10:30am • 12:30pm to 1:00pm • 3:00pm to 3:30pm

Outside of these times, passage through Purton Upper Bridge 4 will not be possible.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience while we carry out these essential works.
