| Temporary Navigation Closure – Ripon Canal |
Sunday 13 September 2026 To ensure the safety of our customers, volunteers, staff and emergency services, navigation on the Ripon Canal is temporarily suspended between Rhodesfield Lock and Ripon Canal Basin with immediate effect. This temporary closure has been requested by North Yorkshire Police following an incident on the waterway. Emergency service investigations are currently taking place within the affected area, and it is essential that boat movements are restricted while this work is carried out. We appreciate that any stoppage can be frustrating, and we are working closely with the authorities to minimise disruption and support a safe reopening as soon as circumstances allow. The Canal & River Trust remains committed to keeping our waterways open, navigable and thriving for everyone who enjoys them. We thank boaters, local residents and visitors for their understanding and cooperation during this exceptional situation.
