Update 14 September 2026, 11:51am
Due to a paddle failure at Lock 3 over the weekend, we are extending the reopening of the Bosley Lock Flight by an additional day to allow boats currently travelling through this section of the Macclesfield Canal to complete their journey.
The Bosley Flight will now remain open on Tuesday, 15 September from 9am until 4pm. The last boat entry through the flight will be at 1pm, and all boats must have exited the flight by 4pm.
The flight will close again on Wednesday, 16 September to allow our team to begin repairs to the head gate and paddle at Lock 3, which are currently unable to retain water effectively.
A further update will be provided on or before Friday, 2 October.

Repairs to Lock 6 on the Bosley Flight of the Macclesfield Canal remain on track for completion tomorrow, Friday, 11 September.
The Bosley Lock Flight is still scheduled to reopen for 3 days from 9am on Saturday, 12 September until 4pm Monday, 14 September. Last boat entry to the flight will be at 1pm, and all boats must have exited the flight by 4pm.
On Tuesday, 15 September the Bosley Flight will close again to allow the team to begin repairs to the head gate at Lock 3, which is currently unable to retain water effectively.
A further update will be provided on or before Friday 2 October.

Repairs are currently underway at Lock 6 on the Bosley Flight of the Macclesfield Canal. The work includes relining the head and tail gates and reattaching the cill bumper. These repairs are expected to be completed by Friday 11 September.
Once these works are completed, the Bosley Lock Flight will reopen for 3 days from Saturday 12 September at 9am to Monday 14 September till 4pm. The Bosley Flight will then be closed again from Tuesday, 15 September to allow the team to carry out repairs to the head gate at lock 3, which is currently unable to retain water effectively.
We anticipate that the repairs will be completed by Friday 2 October.
These essential repairs are necessary to avoid significant water loss through the lock and to ensure the continued safe operation of the flight.
A further update will be provided on or before Thursday, 1 October.

Our teams have assessed the works required at Lock 6 on the Bosley Flight of the Macclesfield Canal and have planned the method of repair.
Work will begin on site on Monday 17 August, to reline the head and tail gates and reattach the cill bumper at Lock 6. We anticipate that the works may take up to four weeks to complete.
These essential repairs are necessary to avoid significant water loss through the lock and to ensure the continued safe operation of the flight.
A further update will be provided on or before Tuesday 8 September.

Navigation is closed on the Bosley Flight from Lock 1 to Lock 12 on the Macclesfield Canal due to a loose cill baffle and a damaged headgate both at Lock 6 which has resulted in low waters.
Our teams are currently assessing the situation and planning the necessary repairs, due to the number of emergency repairs in the North West and the continued dry weather, we are not able to provide an estimate on when the repairs can take place.
