Further to the notice below, please be advised that the contractors are expected to complete the current works during the afternoon of Wednesday 9th September.
Subject to the successful completion of these works the canal will reopen on Thursday morning.
We would like to thank customers for their patience and cooperation during this period of essential maintenance.
Update 3 September 2026, 1pm
Further to the notice below, we are pleased to advise that works at Sulhamstead are proceeding well.
We have agreed with the contractors to temporarily reopen the lock from 4pm on Friday 4th September until 8am on Monday 7th September, allowing passage over the weekend.

Further to the notice below, please be advised that contractors have now started the repair works at Sulhamstead Lock.

Further to the notice below, please be advised that the works at Sulhamstead Lock have been delayed.
Contractors will now be on site on Tuesday 1st September.

Please be advised that works at Sulhamstead Lock 100 are scheduled to commence on Wednesday 26th August.
The works are expected to take approximately one week to complete.

Further to the notice below, we would like to advise our customers that our Engineers and Operations teams have attended site and confirmed that a replacement balance beam is required.
Unfortunately, there is a significant lead time for a replacement beam to be manufactured and delivered.
We are currently exploring alternative options and will provide further updates as soon as more information becomes available.

Unfortunately, damage has occurred to the balance beam at Lock 100 (Sulhamstead Lock), resulting in the lock being temporarily inoperable.
Our engineers are currently assessing the damage and investigating the cause. We will provide a further update as soon as more information becomes available.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience while we work to resolve the issue.

Unfortunately there has been some damage to the balance beam at Lock 100 Sulhamstead Lock which has made the lock inoperable.
A further update will be provided on the morning of Monday 3rd August with a more specific timeline for repair.
