Please be advised that the previously advertised restriction at High Orchard Bridge, St Ann's Way has been revised due to changes to the planned road closure arrangements.

During the periods below, the bridge will not be able to be raised and navigation will be affected as follows:

  • 8:00pm Monday 10 August – 6:00am Tuesday 11 August – Navigation closed to all vessel traffic.
  • 8:00pm Tuesday 11 August – 6:00am Wednesday 12 August – Navigation closed to all vessel traffic.
  • 8:00am Wednesday 12 August – 5:00pm Tuesday 18 August – Navigation closed to vessels with an air draft greater than 5.5m above water level.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and advise all customers to plan accordingly.

Please be advised that Canal & River Trust need to carry out essential investigation works to High Orchard Bridge, St. Ann's Way, Gloucester between Monday 10 August and Tuesday 18 August 2026.   The bridge will need to be regularly lowered and raised between the following times: 8pm Monday 10 August until 6am Tuesday 11 August 8pm Tuesday 11 August until 6am Wednesday 12 August   During this period, the canal will be closed to navigation and the towpath under the bridge will also be closed. 

These investigation works will be taking place at night as the road over the bridge will be closed, thus traffic congestion will be minimised with night working.   The bridge will need to remain in the lowered position between the following times:               8am Wednesday 12 August until 5pm Tuesday 18 August.

  During this period, the canal will closed to navigation for vessels with an air draft greater than 5.5m above water level. 

The towpath and road will remain open between these dates.   Canal & River Trust apologise for any inconvenience these investigation works may cause
