Descriptions

Update 5 August 2026, 5:26pm

Navigation remains closed between Locks 72 and 75 on the Trent & Mersey Canal due to low water levels.

During this closure, repairs will be taking place to the lock gates and cills. These repairs to the lock structure will support the recovery of the water levels, helping to facilitate the reopening of navigation .

We appreciate your patience and understanding while these necessary works are carried out.

A further update will be provided on or before Wednesday, 19 August.

Update 3 August 2026, 12:20pm

Navigation is closed between Locks 71 and 75 on the Trent & Mersey Canal due to the continuation of dry weather and paddles being left open, resulting in low water levels.

Our team are working hard to replenish the pounds, this may take a few days for water levels to recover.

The restricted passages that were in place are also suspended for the time being and once levels are back up the restricted passages will be in place again.

We really appreciate your patience and understanding while we work to get the levels back to normal.

A further update will be on or before Thursday, 6 August.

Original 21 July 2026, 2:24pm

To help manage the water levels a restriction will be in place at Lock 72 and Lock 75 on the Trent & Mersey.

During the week, we kindly ask all boaters to ensure they have cleared both locks by 3:15pm, as the locks will be secured outside of these operating hours.
