Lock 22 Lapworth to Lock 55 Stratford upon Avon

Following recent rainfall and an improvement in water levels, we are pleased to advise that the closure on the South Stratford between Lock 22 Lapworth to Lock 55 is expected to be lifted and navigation restored by Friday 02 October.

Following ongoing monitoring of water resources and canal levels, the navigation remains closed at this time.

While conditions have improved in some areas, water resources remain under pressure and it is not yet considered sustainable to reopen the navigation. Our teams will continue to monitor the situation closely, with a further review scheduled for Wednesday 30 September 2026.

The South Stratford Canal will be closed to navigation between Lock 22, Lapworth and Lock 55, Stratford upon Avon from Monday 3 August 2026 until further notice. This temporary closure will help conserve water and allow the affected section to recover, supporting the sustainability of navigation on the South Stratford Canal and the wider connected canal network. To help conserve water supplies before the closure comes into effect, we ask boaters to undertake only essential journeys within the affected section where possible. We appreciate that this closure may affect planned journeys and apologise for the inconvenience caused. Our teams will continue to monitor conditions closely and we will provide further updates as they become available.
