Due to increased boat movements in recent days, water levels in the canal have fallen to a point where we need to temporarily close the canal to navigation at Newlay, Forge and Kirkstall. This short-term closure will allow the canal time to recover and water levels to replenish. Taking this precaution now helps protect the canal and ensures it remains safe and enjoyable for everyone. We expect this to be a temporary measure, and the local team will be closely monitoring water this section. The canal will reopen as soon as conditions have improved, and it is safe to do so. We will provide a daily update of how recovery is progressing and will re-open the canal at the first opportunity.
