Navigation Closure – Pocklington Canal Waterway: Pocklington Canal Location: Lock 9 (Cottingwith Lock) and Lock 8 (Gardam Lock) Restriction Start: 08:00, Monday 13 July 2026 Type: Navigation Closure Reason: Water Resources Details Due to significantly reduced rainfall across the catchment area, water levels in Pocklington Beck, which supplies the Pocklington Canal, have fallen to exceptionally low levels. Current forecasts indicate that no significant rainfall is expected in the coming weeks. To proactively conserve available water resources and help maintain navigation on the remainder of the canal, Cottingwith Lock (Lock 9) and Gardam Lock (Lock 8) will be closed to navigation for the duration of this restriction. Impact on Navigation

  • Cottingwith Lock (Lock 9) and Gardam Lock (Lock 8) are closed to navigation.
  • The restriction has been implemented to preserve water levels within the canal.
  • Boaters should plan their journeys accordingly and take the closure into account.
  • The closure will help conserve water resources while supporting the ecological requirements of the Pocklington Canal SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest).

We will continue to monitor water levels and review the restriction as conditions change. Further updates will be issued when more information becomes available. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank customers for their understanding and cooperation.
