A closure is required at Botterham Staircase Lock while urgent repairs are carried out. Works are scheduled to take place tomorrow (Thursday 02 July), during which time navigation will be closed from 8am to 2pm.
The lock gates are currently severely leaking, creating a serious safety risk to boats and users.
To enable repairs, the lock will need to be dewatered in full. Additional safety measures, including temporary fencing, will need to be put in place due to the fall-from-height risks associated with the staircase lock configuration.
We will update this notice if we're able to open navigation any sooner than 2pm.
