Update 20 July 2026, 3:21pm

Further to the notice below, engineers are continuing to assess the repairs required at Lock 28.

Caen Hill Flight will be open with assisted passage through Lock 28 for narrowboats only on Wednesday 22 July, from 8:00am to 12:00pm.

We will provide further updates as more information becomes available.

Update 14 July 2026, 2:37pm

Further to the notice below, please be advised that Lock 23 (Foxhangers Lock) is currently inoperable due to a paddle failure.

This will affect the scheduled assisted passage arranged for tomorrow, Wednesday 15th July.

Assisted passage will only be available down the flight tomorrow from 8 am until midday.

On Thursday 16th July, assisted passage will be available up the flight from 8:00 am until midday.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Update 10 July 2026, noon

Further to the notice below, please be advised that the essential maintenance works which were due to be carried out at Lock 28 w/c 13th July are taking longer than originally planned to complete, which has caused a delay in the works starting.

For next week the lock will only be open on Wednesday 15th July - from 8:00am until 12:00pm.

The last entrance to the flight will be at 12:00pm.

There will be assisted passage through the lock (for narrow boats only) on approach to the lock, please wait for instructions from the team, who will be on hand to assist boating customers through the affected area.

Our maintenance team is working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

Further updates will be provided as soon as more progress has been made.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience and understanding.

Update 8 July 2026, 11:06am

Further to the notice below, Caen Hill Flight will be open with assisted passage through Lock 28 for narrow boats only on Thursday 9th July and Friday 10th July, from 8:00am until 12:00pm.

The last entrance to the flight will be at 12:00pm.

On approach to the lock, please wait for instructions from the team, who will be on hand to assist boating customers through the affected area.

The permanent repair will be undertaken during the week commencing 13th July.

We will update this notice when further information becomes available.

Further to the previous notice, please be advised that Lock 28 remains inoperable due to a failure of the mitre beam.

We would like to sincerely apologise for the conflicting messages recently shared regarding the Caen Hill flight.

Following further engineering assessments, we regret to inform you that the flight must now be closed until further notice.
