The dates for these third-party works, being carried out by Volker Highways on behalf of West Berkshire Council, have been revised and will now take place between 18 January and 28 February 2027.

The revised timing allows these works to be coordinated with other planned activities on the Kennet & Avon Canal, helping to minimise disruption to customers.

As a result, no works will take place before Christmas 2026.

Contractor Volker Highways, working on behalf of West Berkshire Council, will be installing new sheet piling to strengthen the existing canal wall on the north side of the canal. Due to the narrow section between Bridge 60 and 32 Wharf Street, a full navigation closure will be in place for the duration of the works, and no vessels will be able to pass through this stretch. The works will be carried out from pontoons. The towpath will be closed for the duration of the works.
