A navigational closure is required to facilitate the replacement of the safety gates on the upstream side of Bridge 4, Purton Upper Swing Bridge. Navigation will be suspended between Purton Lower and 50 metres upstream of Purton Upper.
The existing gates will be removed by crane, with the new gates installed using the same method.
Divers will be working in the canal during both the removal and installation phases, and therefore it will not be possible for vessels to pass through the site during these works.
The car park will be closed for the duration of the works as it will be used for the crane operation and site compound.
Please note: There may be temporary towpath delays while the gates are being lifted.
