Unfortunately, contractors are no longer able to undertake the essential survey works previously scheduled between 13 July and the morning of 24 July.
These essential works have now been rescheduled and will take place at Preston Brook Tunnel to assess the condition of the structure and gather detailed technical information to support future planning and maintenance.
To enable the work to be carried out safely, the tunnel will be closed to navigation overnight between 8:00pm and 6:00am from 20 July until the morning of 25 July. Navigation will remain open as normal during daytime hours.
A further overnight closure will also be required between 8:00pm and 6:00am from 17 August to the morning of 22 August. Details of this additional closure can be found here: link.
These works build on the initial investigations completed earlier this year, with the findings helping to inform this next stage of more detailed assessment.
We have worked to minimise disruption on the navigation by scheduling the works overnight.

Essential survey works are scheduled to take place at Preston Brook Tunnel to assess the condition of the structure and gather detailed technical information.
To carry out this work safely, the tunnel will be closed to navigation overnight between 8pm and 6am, from 13 July to the morning of 24 July. Navigation will remain open as normal during daytime hours and will be fully open over the weekend within this stoppage period.
These works follow initial investigations completed earlier this year, with the findings informing this next stage of more detailed assessment.
We have worked to minimise the impact on navigation during this period by scheduling these works overnight and appreciate your patience while this important work is carried out.
