We have now established a method of repair for the damaged balance beam at Lock 10 on the Peak Forest Canal.
The team will be on site from 8:00 am on Monday 29 June to carry out the replacement of the balance beam. We currently anticipate that the works will be completed on the same day.
Whilst these works are being undertaken, the Marple Flight will remain closed to navigation, and the towpath will also be closed between Locks 9 and 12 for the duration of the works to ensure the safety of both our workforce and the public.
A further update will be provided on Monday 29 June.
Update 22 June 2026, 5:05pm
Navigation remains closed between Locks 1 and 16 on the Marple Flight due to damage to the balance beam at Lock 10.
Our team and contractors have been on site to finalising the method of repair and we anticipate they will be on site this week with a crane to install the new beam .

Navigation remains closed between Locks 1 and 16 on the Marple Flight following damage to the balance beam at Lock 10.
We have sourced the balance beam, which has now been reshaped, and our reactive team is currently planning the repair works. They are currently liaising with our specialist contractors to arrange attendance and complete the installation.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience while these works are carried out.

Update 11 June 2026, 9:53am
Navigation remains closed between Locks 1 and 16 on the Marple Flight of the Peak Forest Canal following damage to the balance beam at Lock 10.
Our reactive team has completed the necessary inspections and confirmed that the balance beam requires replacement. A suitable replacement beam has now been sourced however, it will need to be reshaped before repair works can be scheduled and carried out. The beam is being transported to the workshop and is expected to take approximately three days to reshape. Once the reshaping is complete, the team will be able to schedule and install the replacement.
The next update will be provided on or before Thursday 18 June.

Navigation is currently closed between Locks 1 and 16 on the Marple Flight, Peak Forest Canal, following damage to the balance beam on the lock gate at Lock 10.
Our teams have attended site today and carried out initial inspections and further inspection will be continued tomorrow.
A further update will be provided on or before Thursday 11 June.
