Update 25 August 2026, 2:39pm
Navigation between Bridge 165 and Bridge 165A at Middlewich on the Trent & Mersey Canal remains restriction while third-party contractors carry out the construction of a new bridge crossing over the canal.
The cofferdam installed along the offside of the canal remains in place due to a delay with works required to the offside bank, which are expected to continue until the middle of September. As a result, the navigation channel is narrowed, and boats are unable to pass each other at this location.
The bridge construction works are continuing, and they are scheduled to be completed by 5 pm on Tuesday 30 November 2026.
Although the canal remains open to navigation throughout the works, customers are asked to approach the area with caution and follow any instructions provided by the contractors on site.
