Description
Original 29 May 2026, 11:41am
Works taking place at Slaithwaite Reservoir have necessitated a drawdown of reservoir levels that has been ongoing for several months. With recent warm, dry weather and an increase in boat movement on the canal, we have insufficient water resources to maintain navigation for the long term on the lower section of the canal. From Monday 15th June 2026 navigation between Lock 1E and Lock 31E will close with these locks being padlocked closed. Whilst the closure is in effect passage will only be possible between Standedge Tunnel and Lock 31E. Anyone looking to transit through Standedge Tunnel from Diggle in the Northwest will only be permitted to do so with a return tunnel booking. Boats will be able to turn in the winding hole above Lock 31E. Should levels in Slaithwaite Reservoir improve enough to provide an opportunity to open a passage window then details of this will be communicated by way of an update to this notice.
