Navigation through Stoke Lock is currently affected due to silt movement and low water levels, despite recent dredging of the sand bar. There is no longer a clearly defined channel on the lock approach, which is making passage more difficult.
Boats with a draught over 3ft 8in (1.12m) are likely to experience the greatest difficulty, although all vessels should expect reduced depth and variable conditions. Please proceed slowly and with caution, allowing extra time for passage.
We are arranging for a hydrographic survey to be undertaken as soon as possible to assess the current conditions and assist lock keepers in guiding vessels safely through the area. A plough dredger is already scheduled to attend later this year, and the survey results will help determine whether any additional short-term measures are required sooner.
We will provide a further update once the survey has been completed.
