The dive team have attended this morning and have repaired the paddle. The lock is now operational for boaters to use.

We have explored underwater using a camera and can see the paddle but the footage is not clear enough to determine the precise problem.
A dive team has been booked and they will go underwater on Friday 29th May to get to the root of the problem. The diver will repair or replace the paddle if at all possible.
This notice will be updated following the dive.

A navigation closure is still in place for Lock 23E as the repair work is organised to the paddle. A camera will need to used to look into and explore how these repairs are going to be carried out beforehand. Once this has been carried out, divers will be able to enter the pound and carry out the needed repairs to the paddle. We will update the notice when we receive further information on the works needed and the time that it will take to carry out the repairs.

The head paddle on the towpath side at 23E has failed, and the paddle cannot be closed. Our team suspect the back plate may have come away from the wall, but this is underwater so needs further investigation to establish the actual cause of the failure. Once we have established the cause, we can arrange to repair this.
