Update 28 May 2026, 5:32pm
Following the continued period of hot weather, our teams have been carrying out daily inspections and operational testing on the swing bridges.
This morning, we were able to successfully operate Town Bridge, as its temperature and operating parameters were temporarily within normal limits. However, as the day progressed and temperatures increased, further heat-related expansion caused the bridge to move outside of our safe operating tolerances.
As a result, the swing bridges remain temporarily unavailable for operation due to ongoing safety concerns.
Our teams will continue to closely monitor conditions with regular testing. Once temperatures stabilise and safe operating conditions can be consistently maintained, the bridges will be reopened and a further update will be issued.
This restriction only applies to vessels requiring bridge operation. Boats that can safely navigate beneath the bridges without them being swung remain unaffected.
We apologise for the continued disruption and thank customers for their patience and understanding.
The next update will be provided on Monday, 1 June.
Update 27 May 2026, 1:34pm
Following the recent spell of hot weather, conditions are gradually improving, and we are hopeful that the impact on the operation of swing bridges on the Weaver Navigation is beginning to reduce. However, for safety reasons, we are still temporarily unable to operate these bridges.
Our teams are continuing to monitor conditions daily, including carrying out regular temperature checks, and are reviewing the situation closely. As soon as temperatures reduce to a safe level, we will provide a further update and reopen the bridges for navigation.
This restriction only affects vessels that normally require the bridges to be swung. If your vessel can safely pass beneath the bridges without them being operated, this notice does not apply.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause to your boating plans.
A further update will be provided on Thursday, 28 May.
