Our contractors are currently carrying out the repairs to the damaged tailgates at Lock 12 and are aiming to complete the work over the weekend.
The scaffolding is expected to be removed by 4:00 pm on Tuesday, 9 June, after which we hope to reopen the lock.
We appreciate your patience and understanding while these important works are completed.
A further update will be provided on or before Tuesday 9 June.

Pumps have now been installed to dewater Lock 12 to allow us to investigate and create a method of repair of the damaged tailgates.

Navigation between Lock 1 and Lock 12, Bosley Flight, on the Macclesfield Canal remains closed due to the damaged tailgates at Lock 12.
Our reactive team is currently on site carrying out repairs.

Navigation between Lock 1 and Lock 12 will remain closed due to the damage to the tailgates at Lock 12.Our reactive team are scheduled to begin repairs to the tailgates during the week commencing Monday 25 May. We are offering an assisted booked passage which will be operate on Thursday 21 May only, starting at 9:00am
If you would like to book the assisted passage, please contact our North West Customer Service team on 0303 0404 040. Please note that advance booking is required, as there is a limit to the number of boats that can be safely assisted through the locks while repairs are pending. Further update will be on or before 27 May

Our team carried out initial checks today on the tail gates at Lock 12. However, further work is required as the lock is not yet able to retain enough water to operate.We will provide an update on Tuesday 19 May.
Update 17 May 2026, 9:13pm
The narrowboat has now been successfully removed from Lock 12 on the Bosley Flight, Macclesfield Canal. However, navigation will remain closed between Lock 1 and Lock 12 while we await our engineers' attendance to inspect the damaged tail gates at Lock 12. This damage is preventing the lock from sealing, resulting in the lock being filled and operated safely.

Navigation is currently closed between Lock 1 and Lock 12 on the Macclesfield Canal due to a boat becoming stuck on the cill at Lock 12. We are currently awaiting attendance from River Rescue. A further update will be provided once the boat has been removed from the lock.
