Update 10 July 2026, 11:22am
Please be advised that the essential maintenance works currently taking place at Gloucester Lock 2 are taking longer than originally planned to complete.
During the installation of the refurbished stop plank channels, several unforeseen issues were encountered which have delayed progress and, as a result, the temporary operating restrictions currently in place will need to remain in effect beyond the original completion date of 10 July 2026.
A revised completion date is now planned for 17 July 2026.
Until this date, Gloucester Lock 2 and its approaches will remain closed between 09:00am and 16:00am on weekdays.
Passage through the lock will continue to be available between 08:00am and 09:00am, and after 16:00pm on weekdays.
Navigation will remain open as normal at weekends, with no restrictions in place.
Please do not attempt to navigate through the lock area during working hours, as this can cause delays to the works and create safety concerns due to water ingress into the work site.
We are working closely with our contractors to complete the remaining works as safely and efficiently as possible.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank customers for their patience and understanding.
Original 24 April 2026, 3:58pm
Please be advised that essential maintenance works are required at Gloucester Lock 2, including the re‑installation of stop plank channels, repairs to the west dockside ground paddle, and associated surveys within the lock.
These works were originally planned for November 2025 but could not proceed due to insufficient water depths across the dock, which prevented safe access.
The works were later provisionally rescheduled for the post‑Christmas stoppage period but were again unable to proceed due to river flood conditions, preventing safe access and working at the river entrance to the lock.
A revised planned closure is now scheduled from 29th June to 10th July 2026.
During this period, Gloucester Lock 2 and its approaches will be closed between 09:00 and 16:00 on weekdays.
Passage through the lock will be available outside of these hours, including during the weekend within the stoppage.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank customers for their patience and understanding.
