Contractors working on behalf of High Speed 2 are carrying out works in this area of the Oxford Canal, including the removal of a bridge and construction of a new viaduct.

To enable these works to be carried out safely, both daytime restrictions and night-time navigation closures will be in place.

Daytime restrictions, 27 April to 5 June 2026: During this period, materials will be lifted over the canal and plant will be operating close to the canal edge. At these times, craft may be instructed to wait for up to 30 minutes while the site is made safe to pass. Please follow all instructions given on site and proceed with caution.

Night-time closures: The canal will close at 9pm and reopen at 6am the following morning. • 21 May to 22 May 2026, canal closed from 9pm on 21 May to 6am on 22 May • 28 May to 29 May 2026, canal closed from 9pm on 28 May to 6am on 29 May • 4 June to 6 June 2026, canal closed nightly from 9pm to 6am • 8 June to 11 June 2026, canal closed nightly from 9pm to 6am • 29 June to 2 July 2026, canal closed nightly from 9pm to 6am

The towpath remains diverted around the works at all times, with a signed diversion route in place.

Contractors working on behalf of High Speed 2 Limited are constructing a new viaduct over the Oxford Canal. Works taking place alongside the canal will require materials to be lifted over the canal during the day, and excavators will be operating close to the canal edge.

During these activities, craft using the Oxford Canal at this location may be instructed by the contractor to stop and wait for up to 30 minutes while the site is made safe to pass. Please pass the location with caution.
