Following our previous update, we would like to provide further information regarding the repairs at Lock 2, Hack Green.
Our original team scheduled to undertake the balance beam replacement has been delayed while completing other emergency repair works elsewhere in the North West .
To avoid further uncertainty, we have reassigned this task to an alternative team. Unfortunately, due to their current commitments, they are unable to begin work on this lock until Monday 2 March.
Once on site, we expect repairs to take approximately 2 days, and we aim to have the lock fully repaired and navigation reopened by Wednesday 4 March.
We will provide a further update on Wednesday 4 March.
Update 11 February 2026, 4:09pm
Navigation remains closed at Lock 2, Hack Green on the Shropshire Union Canal due to a damaged balance beam on the bottom lock gate.
Our team has assessed the structure and unfortunately a temporary repair is not possible. A replacement balance beam has been sourced; however, additional fabrication work to the lock gate itself is required before installation can safely take place. This fabrication is currently being designed by our engineers.
With our teams committed to completing other priority repairs across the North West, we anticipate that work on this lock will begin toward the end of next week.
Once started, the repairs are expected to take approximately 4 to 5 days to complete.
We will provide a further update on Thursday, 19 February.

Navigation is currently closed at Lock 2, Hack Green on the Shropshire Union Canal due to a repair on a damaged balance beam on the bottom gate.
The team have already attended site and are now looking at a method of repair.
We kindly ask all customers to approach the area with caution.
