Original 29 January 2026, 3:06pm

Please be advised that a rowing event has been organised by Gloucester Rowing Club on Sunday 22nd March from 9am until 4pm.   Large numbers of participating boats will travel from Gloucester Boathouse at Hempsted to one of two marshalling and start points: (i) At Sellars Bridge or (ii) North of Parkend Bridge.

Boats will race in procession from these points to a common finish point approx. 200m south of Rea Bridge. From there all boats will proceed slowly back to Gloucester Boathouse.

Large numbers of boats will be stationary close into the canal sides at the start points until the races start, at which point they will each turn and race northwards towards the finish line.

The canal will not be closed to traffic, but operators of powered craft are asked to keep right, keep speeds and washes to an absolute minimum and use warning horns in good time if you think that a crew is not aware of your approach.

Please take particular care when approaching and passing crews that are racing and prepared to heave to close to the bank if necessary.

Visitor Moorings at Hempsted Bridge The visitor mooring adjacent to Hempsted bridge will be very restricted because of rowing boat movement & GRC requests that boat owners avoid mooring at this location if possible over the weekend in order to minimise any risks.   Your patience, understanding and goodwill will be greatly appreciated.
