Descriptions

Update 31 March 2026, 4:23pm

Unfortunately, we were hoping for these works to be complete, but there has been a delay in the works being completed. The wall a few weeks back had a tree falling onto the already damaged wall causing more damage. It is still not safe enough to open up to the public. We will be chasing up the works and when we have further information we will update the notice.

Original 19 December 2025, 1:33pm

The section of towpath from Lock 4 east, Longroyd Bridge to Bridge 30, Mark Bottom Road Bridge has been closed for some time due to an unstable wall that may pose a risk to towpath users. Works to repair the wall will commence on 19th January 2026 and complete by 31st March 2026. Repairs to the wall will be undertaken from boats moored near to Lock 5 East.

Boaters wishing to travel between Bridge 29 and Lock 4 east may experience delays. Passage between these points will need to be agreed in advance with the Contractor working in this area. The mooring points between bridge 29 and Lock 4 East will not be accessible from 19th January until 31st March 2026.
