As part of the regeneration of Birmingham's former City Hospital site, third-party contractors need to undertake a trial hole at the back of the towpath to analyse a gas main running in the grass verge opposite the Birmingham City Hospital compound.
The towpath will remain open, and signs and barriers will be installed around the working area.
The canal will remain open as usual.
