Engineers and contractors have attended the site and completed the necessary repairs to the bridge. The bridge is now fully operational and working as normal.
We apologise for any delays caused.

The bridge is unsafe to move manually and is still closed. We have contractors attending site tomorrow morning to assess the electrics. We will update the notice tomorrow after the contractors have attended site.
Update 14 December 2025, 11:30am
Contractors have advised that an additional repair is required. The bridge will remain closed to navigation. An update to this notice with further details will be provided on Monday 15th December.

Our contractor has confirmed that repairs to Bar Lane Swing Bridge will be carried out on Saturday evening, 13th December, reopening Sunday morning.
This notice will be updated on Monday, 15th December, once a successful repair has been carried out.

The contractor has advised that parts are currently on order and should be available within the week. They are also in the process of arranging for a road closure to take place, in order for the repair to be carried out.
As soon as confirmation of a start date is received, this notice will be updated.
Update 1 December 2025, 3:41pm
The Mechanical & Engineering Team attended site this morning and found that the junction box was flooded. Having cleaned it, it was found that there was also a broken connection.
In order to access the junction box, which is situated underneath the bridge, the bridge will need to remain closed to canal traffic and a road closure will be required. It is anticipated that work should be completed by the end of the week. The pedestal is currently showing an error message and has no power to it.
This message will be updated by 16:00 on Friday, 5th December.

Bar Lane Swingbridge is currently closed to canal traffic due to a fault with the electrics.
Engineers will be in attendance early next week to review the problem and carry out the necessary repairs.
