Descriptions

Update 23 December 2025, 10:02am

After the repairs to the anchor and collar had been completed, we have been closely monitoring the water levels. The water levels have been checked by the team, this morning and they have recovered sufficiently to reopen this section of canal at Lock 5 and to have the locks safe to operate.

Update 19 December 2025, 3:01pm

Repairs to the anchor and collar at Lock 5 on the Huddersfield Broad Canal have now been completed. However, water levels in the area remain too low to safely operate the lock. We are continuing to monitor conditions and will reopen the lock as soon as water levels improve sufficiently.

Update 19 December 2025, 2:15pm

A further period of time is needed to allow the sections of navigation to recover before we are able to reopen the section. We will update the notice on Monday 22nd December, when the navigation has returned back to navigable water levels.

Original 21 November 2025, 2:59pm

Reason: Repair Description: The Anchor and collar have been broken so the towpath side head gate cannot be moved. They will need a new casting sourcing and fitting Instructions: No passage through Lock 5 will be possible until the repairs are completed No end date at the moment, but the notice will be updated as the repair work progresses.
