Bingley 5 & 3 Rise, Forge & Newlay - Winter Hours Update

As we move into Winter Hours, the locks listed below must now be booked at least 72 hours in advance. This year, Newlay and Forge have been added to the winter-hours booking schedule alongside 3 & 5 Rise. Winter hours run from Monday 1st December to Tuesday 31st March 2026.

3 & 5 Rise – Booking Arrangements Up the flight

• Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday
• Booking slots: 9:00–10:00 and 10:00–11:00

Down the flight

• Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday
• Booking slots: 11:00–12:00 and 12:00–13:00

Please use the online booking system on our website to book passage. Bookings must be made at least 72 hours before travel — no late bookings can be accepted. Wide Beam Vessels: If your boat is over 7ft wide, you must book directly with our Yorkshire & North East Customer Service Team, as wide beams require separate passage and cannot share lock space. A minimum of 72 hours' notice is required for all winter-hours bookings. We will review these arrangements as the season progresses. If you need any further information, feel free to give us a call. Thanks for your help.

We are pleased to confirm that throughout November passage through the lock flights at Bank Newton and Gargrave, Bingley 5 & 3 rise, Forge, Newlay and Kirkstall will remain available from 8am daily with a last entry time of 2pm.    Lock keepers will retain discretion on the direction of travel.   These hours of operation will cease from Friday 28th November 2025, after which time our winter operating regime will commence. After this time to transit through these lock flights advanced booking, with a minimum 72 hours notice, will be required.    Bookings for Friday 28th November 2025 onwards can be made by contacting our Customer Service Team on 0303 040 4040.

Opening times for Bank Newton, Gargrave, Bingley 5 Rise, Bingley 3 Rise, Kirkstall Forge and Newlay Locks:-
