Update 16 February 2026, 3:29pm
We are pleased to confirm that the works at Lock 83, Lock 19 have now been completed. Please note that the Wigan Flight remains closed due to the ongoing works at Lock 65.
Update 28 November 2025, 11:03am
Following a review of the works, this stoppage has been extended until 20 February to allow for additional tasks identified on site. We will now be carrying out grouting works to both lock chambers and the upstream approach walls. Please note that the Wigan Flight will already be closed in this area, and these works will be undertaken alongside the originally planned works at other locations on the flight.
Original 23 September 2025, 2:31pm
We apologise for the need to add a navigation closure to carry out grouting works on the Lock. Grouting is a repair method where special cement is injected into cracks or gaps in the lock's structure. This helps stop leaks, strengthens the lock, and keeps it working well for years to come. During this period, towpath access will be restricted.
