Descriptions

Update 2 September 2025, 3:03pm

Please note that restrictions have now been extended to include Lock 13 (Bagnall Lock)

Original 1 September 2025, 2:11pm

Please be advised that a navigation restriction will be in place between Lock 19 (Shade House) and Lock 15 (Hunts Lock) on the Trent and Mersey Canal, effective from Wednesday 3rd September.

To support water conservation and recovery, the following measures will apply:

  • Navigation hours: 10:00am – 3:00pm daily
  • Last boat entry: 2:00pm

This measure is necessary due to ongoing water losses resulting from paddles being left open after use. These actions have significantly reduced water levels, particularly in the Fazeley pound, which, due to its size and limited feed, takes considerable time to recover.

By restricting navigation to set hours, we aim to conserve the remaining water and support the gradual recovery of levels throughout the system.

We strongly urge boaters to avoid opening paddles unnecessarily, as this further impacts already low water levels. For guidance on how you can help, refer to the Thrift Code - a set of simple actions boaters can take to save water.

We thank you for your support in reducing water use across our network, and reporting leaks or concerns via 0303 040 4040 or our Contact Us page
