Update 16 July 2025, 10:47am
We will begin operating assisted passage twice a week through Tottenham locks for an hour at a time. This will operate Mondays and Fridays starting from this Friday 18th at 9am-10am.
We have maintained a careful watch on the water levels on the Lee and Stort and in conversation with the water engineers, we believe the situation is stable enough to cope with a managed amount of passage and we recognise and understand the need to move and keep the navigation open as much as is possible during this period.
We will continue to observe the levels and evaluate passage options as weather conditions change.
Update 9 July 2025, 11:36am
Please be advised that following further advice from our water control teams there will be no change to the status at Tottenham Lock.
We will issue an update to this notice by the 16th of July.
Update 9 July 2025, 10:54am
Unfortunately with further hot and dry weather on the way there is no change to the closure at Tottenham Lock.
We remain unable to offer assisted passage due to the continued low levels.
Our team continue to review the situation on a day by day basis and we'll update this notice by the 16th of July.
Update 7 July 2025, 11:38am
Unfortunately despite the rain from the weekend the levels in the pound at Tottenham Lock have not recovered enough to allow us to reopen navigation or offer assisted passage at this time.
With the forecast showing hot weather we need to prioritise the safety of the vessels moored in the pound between Tottenham and Stonebridge.
We'll continue to monitor the situation and provide updates where necessary.
Original 2 July 2025, 11:58am
We are suffering from a severe shortage of water due to low water levels this year. Boats in the Stonebridge to Tottenham pound are becoming grounded.
Tottenham Locks are closed and will not be open for assisted passage until further notice.
We are urging customers moored in the area to avoid cruising due to the low water levels.
