Update 22 August 2025, 10:06am

Our Engineering Team have updated us with the works undertaken. The guillotine gate wire ropes and associated components have been changed. There are additional works still taking place to ensure the safe use of the Guillotine Lock once it is open and additional safety checks that need to be undertaken. Once these have been completed then the scaffolding will be removed and we are hoping that the asset will be repaired and functional on the 27th August. We will confirm this officially on the 27th August via an update to the notice, changing the status. Please be aware that the navigation will be still closed when the asset is repaired.

Update 6 August 2025, 10:06am

Our engineers are planning to start work on this lock on the 11 August, and anticipate the works will take approximately 3 weeks. We will update this notice by the 22 August

Update 30 July 2025, 11:01am

Our Engineering Team continue to plan the essential repairs and obtaining the parts needed to carry out of the works. The design has been approved and scaffolding should be going up soon to start the works. After the completion of the works on the Guillotine Lock at Salterhebble, the contractors will move onto the repairs at Todmorden. We will update the notice when we receive further updates.

Update 4 July 2025, 4:15pm

Our Engineering team continue to plan these essential repairs and obtain the parts needed to do this.   We expect that it will be another 2-4 weeks before repairs are complete and navigation can resume.   Further update will be given on or before 18 July 2025.

Update 20 June 2025, 2:23pm

Our engineers have inspected and assessed the condition of the lock mechanism and have concluded that works are needed to ensure it can be safely operated.

The planning and mobilisation for these works is underway and we anticipate that these works will take between 4 and 6 weeks to complete.

We will update this notice on the 4th July with a progress update.

Original 17 June 2025, 5:12pm

Because of safety concerns we are having to suspend use of this lock whilst our engineers carry out an in-depth inspection and assessment of the lock mechanism. We apologise for the inconvenience this causes but we need to ensure that it can be safely operated. We will update this notice by 2pm on Friday.
