The sinkhole has been repaired and is open for towpath use for pedestrians and other towpath users. The navigation is still closed.

The towpath is also closed in this area between Lock 11 and Lock 12 as it isn't currently safe to get through.

The navigation is now closed between Lock 11 and Lock 12 on the Rochdale canal. Please do not try and operate Lock 11 or Lock 12. Boaters that are already on that pound can stay there. We are going to drop the water levels following the discovery of a sinkhole near the towpath Weir at Whitley Arches. We are hoping that we don't need to drop the levels too much as we don't want to inconvenience any boaters already on this pound.
We will keep you updated as this progresses.
