Update 06/06/2025 09:27

We are pleased to advise navigation is now open at Lock 1 - Lock 6 on the Glasson Branch on the Lancaster Canal.

Update 30/05/2025 15:39

Whilst we have had substantial rainfall, which has helped with the water management, the Glasson flight will need water to be fed down into the basin.

We expect this to take a few days and unfortunately until water levels are sufficient Locks 1 to Lock 6 on the Glasson branch will remain closed.

We understand how frustrating this may be and are sorry for any inconvenience it may cause to your boating plans.

We will provide a further update Friday 6 June.

Update 23/05/2025 11:34

Due to the continued period of dry weather and limited water resources, the Glasson Flight will need to remain closed for the time being. Unfortunately, this situation is not isolated — we are also having to reschedule planned passages on the Ribble Link.

By temporarily closing these lock flights, we are able to conserve water and redirect the available resources to help maintain and stabilise water levels along the main line of the Lancaster Canal.

We understand how frustrating this may be and are sorry for any inconvenience it may cause to your boating plans.

Our teams are closely monitoring the situation and doing everything possible to manage the water levels effectively.

We will provide a further update on Friday 30 May.

Update 19/05/2025 16:42

Unfortunately, due to this continuation of dry weather, after all our efforts to feeding water down to re fill the flight, the water resources remain low and therefore navigation remains closed between Lock 1 and Lock 6 on the Glasson branch.

With the complex issue of raising the water levels, our local teams will continue to monitor and review this again next week.

We're sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused to your boating plans.

A further update will be provided Wednesday 28 May.

Original 16/05/2025 14:22

Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control with the water resources, sadly we are unable to open the canal between Locks 1 and Lock 6 on the Glasson branch as the water levels have decreased significantly over night.

We will need to investigate why and while we do we are securing the gates and installing tarpaulin to ensure we protect the canal levels in the Lancaster canal.

We do apologise for any inconvenience this may of caused and affected your boating plans.

A further update will be provided Monday 19 May.
