Update 13 March 2026, 12:49pm
We would like to offer our sincere apologies, as we require an extension of up to 6 days to complete the remaining works on site. During the removal and installation of the gates this week, our team identified several unforeseen issues that could not have been detected before the gates were removed. These include structural complications with the quoins, additional remedial work required to the gates themselves, and necessary strengthening and adjustments to the timber cills. Some of this work involves removing and replacing sections of concrete, which must be given adequate curing time to ensure a safe and long‑lasting finish. Please be assured that our team will be working over the weekend to minimise any delay, and we remain fully committed to completing the project to the highest standard. If we are able to complete the works before 19 March, we will update this notice. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
Update 12 January 2026, 3:41pm
We'd like to clarify the winding hole locations for this stoppage. The upstream winding hole will be located above Lock 14 (Adkins Lock), and the downstream winding hole will be near Bridge 113, Folly Lane. Please note that mooring will not be permitted within the stoppage area between Locks 8 and 14 while works are in progress.
Update 9 January 2026, 1:50pm
Please be advised that, in addition to the advertised works at Lock 12, we will also be carrying out investigative works at Lock 10, which require the lock to be dewatered. The stoppage dates and closure location remain unchanged as originally communicated. Both teams have coordinated to ensure these works can proceed safely and efficiently. Measures will be in place to maintain water flow past the work sites and manage lock flight control effectively. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation while these important improvements are completed.
Original 8 May 2025, 11:10pm
A navigation and towpath closure are required to replace the bottom lock gates and rebuild the wingwall and quadrant.
