Descriptions

Update 6 November 2025, 1:20pm

Unfortunately, the third-party contractors carrying out the towpath refresh as part of the West Midlands Interchange Scheme between Four Ashes Bridge (78a) and Calf Heath Bridge (77) have informed us that they are not in a position to complete these works. The originally advertised navigation closure from 24 November to 19 December will still go ahead, but the towpath refresh will now take place at a later date, and we will provide an update once more information is available.

Update 27 October 2025, 12:48pm

As part of the West Midlands Interchange Scheme, we will be refreshing the towpath between Four Ashes Bridge (78a) and Calf Heath Bridge (77). These works will take place from 10 November to 19 December 2025, aligning with the already advertised stoppage on this section of the canal.  Please note: Navigation will remain open until 24 November, at which point it will close in line with the original stoppage schedule.  A diversion route has been arranged and will be clearly signposted for towpath users throughout the closure period.

Original 8 May 2025, 9:50pm

A navigation and towpath closure are required for the removal of 3 redundant service bridges (2x pipe bridges & 1 road bridge) as part of the West Midlands Interchange Development in Calf Heath.
