Descriptions

Update 4 March 2026, 11:32am

Work on the Marsworth Flight has been delayed by severe weather throughout the project.  As a result, the team has been unable to complete all required repairs within the original stoppage window. To allow the remaining work to be completed safely and to the required standard, we now need to extend the current stoppage until 20 March. Once the stoppage has ended, a further navigation restriction from 23–27 March will be in place to allow us to finish additional repair activities that cannot be carried out during the main stoppage period. During this time, short delays to boat movement may be necessary, and our team will assist with passage where required. We apologise for any inconvenience this extended closure may cause and thank you for your patience while we complete these essential works.

Update 7 January 2026, 11:38am

Please be advised that the towpath will no longer be closed during these works.

Update 19 December 2025, 3:02pm

Please note that the navigation will remain open on 5 January while we mobilise to the works site.  The navigation will then close at 1:00 pm on 6 January. Thank you for your understanding.

Original 7 May 2025, 11:06pm

This navigation and towpath closure encompasses three pieces of work. We will be doing a top & bottom gate replacement on lock 42, bottom gate replacement on lock 43 and bottom gate replacement and repairs to the top gate of lock 44.
