Contractors working on behalf of High Speed 2 are removing a bridge from the Oxford Canal. To allow these works to take place safely, night time navigation closures are required. The canal will close at 9pm and reopen at 6am the following morning. The towpath is currently diverted around the works at all times, and a signed diversion route remains in place. Closure details: 8 June to 11 June – night closures in place from 9pm to 6am each night 29 June to 2 July – night closures in place from 9pm to 6am each night Thank you for your patience while these works are carried out.

The towpath will remain closed and diverted until the end of January 2027 due to ongoing construction works by HS2 Limited.
The temporary towpath diversion route will be available to towpath users throughout.

Contractors working on behalf of High Speed 2 Limited, are constructing a new railway viaduct over the Oxford Canal. To undertake works to the existing canal bank and to construct the new viaduct, it is necessary to temporarily close the towpath and provide a temporary alternative route around the works for towpath users. The towpath will be closed to the public between a point immediately east of Bridge 128 a point approximately 100 metres east of Bridge 128. A waymarked temporary alternative route for towpath users around the High Speed 2 works, will be provided. The towpath is a public right of way at this location, and permission has been granted by Warwickshire County Council to temporary close the towpath and provide the alternative route.
