The charity making life better by water

Singers head to Nottingham for canalside choir festival in aid of vital water charities

To celebrate World Water Day, singers across the East Midlands are heading to Nottingham for a special canal-side choir festival in aid of water-based charities.

Big square building with plenty of windows and lined with bunting next to the canal with a boat and branded Canal & River Trust tents.

The festival, taking place on Friday 22 March at Binks Yard, will help to raise vital funds for the Canal & River Trust, RNLI West Bridgford and WaterAid.

Members of the public are being invited to the event to see some of the region’s most popular choirs and community singing groups perform a range of water-themed songs.

The event is free to enter and as well as the singing there will also be stalls for charities involved where people can find out more about their work, make a donation, learn about volunteering or buy merchandise. There will also be a water purification demonstration by Aquabox, Wirksworth, on behalf of WaterAid.

Organiser of the event, and Canal & River Trust volunteer, Barbara Hillier said: “We know that spending time by water and singing are both great for your mental health, so what could be more relaxing than enjoying some live music by our wonderful canals?

“As a volunteer for the Canal & River Trust, I see first-hand the benefits of spending time by water and this is a great way of bringing more people down to the water-side while raising money for some incredible causes.

“Come along, enjoy some live music and help support the vital work of the Canal & River Trust, RNLI, and WaterAid.”

The World Water Day Choirs Festival is taking place on Friday 22 March at Binks Yard, Great Northern Close, Nottingham. The first choir will be performing at 1.30pm with the event finishing at 6pm.
