Our summer programme offers something for all ages, from wildlife-themed activities and nature discovery sessions to hands-on workshops and family-friendly outdoor adventures.
The summer programme
Foxton Locks is the UK’s longest, steepest flight of staircase locks, built by hand more than 200 years ago to help raise cargo-carrying boats 75ft uphill, and welcomes more than 400,000 visitors each year. Set among 34 acres of green space, the engineering marvel provides the perfect backdrop for a day out, with visitors able to enjoy stunning countryside, spot local wildlife and discover more about the rich history of the site.
This summer’s programme includes activities such as guided wildlife walks, craft sessions where participants can create a stained-glass dragonfly or woodland suncatcher, pond-dipping activities and specialist nature workshops, giving people the chance to get out in the great outdoors while learning more about the waterways on their doorstep.
We're the charity which cares for the site, along with 2,000 miles of the nation’s waterways, and over 100 volunteers work year-round to help care for the historic site.
