Physical activity is an important aspect of wellbeing and our charity loves to see people feeling happier and healthier by water. We keep canals alive so that everyone has a place to unwind, exercise and forget about the pressures of everyday life.
This Girl Can
This Girl Can is on a new mission to show that natural environments, including canals, are for all women to enjoy.
Their research shows that 2.4 million women are missing out on the opportunity to relieve stress, build connections and improve self-esteem through physical activity – we want to help change that.
Kate Dale, director of marketing at Sport England, says, “From jogs with friends over a catch-up to solo strolls or family bike rides, summer is a brilliant time to reap the benefits of moving your body while enjoying the great outdoors.”
Get active by the water
Our charity’s 2,000 miles of canals and rivers provide largely-level, traffic-free routes where you can exercise free of charge, at a time that suits you – in a way that suits you.
Whether you fancy a short stroll, a long walk, a waterside jog or a cycle ride, your local towpath can help you on your journey to a more active life.
