The charity making life better by water

Here for you

During the pandemic it’s more important than ever before that we have somewhere to escape. Both physically and mentally. Somewhere on our doorstep that allows us to stretch our legs, clear our minds and strengthen our resilience. Your local canals and rivers can offer this escape and we just want to remind you that we're here for you.

Your local escape

Our canals have stayed open for you when you need them the most. To make sure everyone stays safe, we're urging people to stay local, take extra care when passing, follow Government guidelines and be thoughtful of others when using our towpaths.

Recharge by the canal

Our canals offer so much more than a stroll. At a time when the pandemic is affecting all of us in so many challenging ways, our waterways are the perfect places to help us feel calmer, happier and healthier.

Spend time by water and you'll benefit from fresh air, get closer to nature and can even leave your worries behind.

Can't visit in person?

Now more than ever it is important to stay local. If you don't live near a canal or you can't make it to your usual waterway destination, then let us bring the canals to you. We've collected together the best of our virtual walks, games and tours.

Can you help us?

Not since the height of the industrial revolution have our canals played such a crucial role in our lives. Never before have so many people needed them.

However, the pandemic has meant that, like many other charities, we face a shortfall in our fundraising income. It's now more urgent than ever that we continue our work to keep our canals safe, open and available for all.
