Excitement is already building ahead of this year's event, with people signing up to take part up and down the country. And as May is National Walking Month, it's the perfect time to sign up for the challenge, and even get some practice in along your local canal in the run up to June.
Miriam, who runs regularly along her local canals in Birmingham, is keen to raise as much money for the Trust as possible. “I'm doing Canalathon because I think the canals are such a great place to walk and run,” she tells us. “Being in a city, it can get quite hectic. It's so nice to be able to get out and into nature.”
Your fundraising will help protect and care for our canals and support wellbeing initiatives across England and Wales. We've always been big believers in the mental health benefits of spending time by water. Our canals and rivers are a lifeline for so many people, a tranquil spot away from the stresses and strains of daily life, often right in the heart of the city.
This June, why not challenge yourself like Miriam has and discover your own happy place by water? With the cost-of-living crisis deepening and inflation on the rise, we need your help now more than ever. So dig out your running shoes or trainers, and together we'll keep our beautiful canals and rivers alive for everyone to enjoy, improving the health and happiness of millions of people.
