As a charity, the Canal & River trust couldn't continue to care for our wonderful waterways and canal heritage without our committed team of volunteers. Here at the museum, many of them, such as our engineering and maintenance gang, use their knowledge and skills to help keep our fleet of floating exhibits in tip top condition.

National Waterways Museum GloucesterFor instance our marvellous SND 4 steam dredger. Come along to the museum to talk to the team and hear their tall - and not so tall tales - of working boats on our docks and canals.

And look out for our Boat Crafters' Group. They regularly run workshops on traditional waterways crafts such as bonnet-making, spiderweb stitching and rag rugging.

How to get involved as a volunteer

Other volunteers help out on our reception desk and shop, aboard our boats, maintaining our internal displays and as part of our education programme for schools and families.
