Arts & Culture on the Waterways

Our waterways are special places for people, nature and the arts to flourish. We're inviting local communities to join us with our wide-ranging arts programme.

A wonderful new wave of outdoor arts on the waterways is coming. We're taking part in Covid-safe arts ensuring a safer environment for participants and we're excited to share with you what we've been up to and what's coming up.

Connecting communities

Despite many of our plans being cancelled due to the pandemic restrictions over the last year, our canals still offered a vital source of creative inspiration and wellbeing for many people up and down the country.

We continued to support The Line, a wonderful public art walk alongside the Lee Navigation in east London, that allowed people to benefit from spending time by water in urban areas. More projects that flourished in 2020 were our Words on the Waterways writing competition, and our street art transformations.

Extraordinary events

We're delighted to be a key partner with the Coventry UK City of Culture 2021 with events and initiatives taking place this summer along Coventry Canal and its basin in the city. You'll see beautiful street art in Sefton, Tottenham and Walsall.

Our Hinterlands programme will deliver a series of unique, participatory arts activities in Sheffield, Enfield and Tottenham and new audio works by women artists are being produced, curated by the brilliant Idle Women group.
