Edstone (or Bearley) Aqueduct
This 250-yard cast-iron trough aqueduct is unusual because its accompanying towpath is on a level with the base rather than the lip of the trough - the result is that walkers are overtaken by boats passing at their eye level. A mile to the north is Wootton Wawen basin, and another aqueduct. At the basin there is a pub.
Close by is Wootton Wawen, a charming village with many ancient timber-frames houses that is now a conservation area. Its 11th-century church of St Peter's is the only remaining Saxon church in Warwickshire. Shakespeare's mother's house - Mary Arden's House (01789 204016) - is at Wimcote, about a mile-and-a-half south of Edstone Aqueduct, at Bridge 59.
